Mobile Industry to adopt universal charger for mobile phones by 2012
Global System for Mobile Communication Association (GSMA) was recently reported to have said that it has joined forces with seventeen top mobile companies with the purpose of developing and rolling out a universal charging solution that is claimed to make use of a Micro USB as its charging interface.
The first group of companies that have interest in this project comprise of 3 Group, KTF, LG, AT&T, Motorola, Nokia, Orange, mobilkom austria, Qualcomm, Samsung, Sony Ericsson, Telecom Italia, Telefonica, Telenor, Telstra, T-Mobile and Vodafone.
Rob Conway, CEO and Member of the Board of the GSMA, was quoted as saying, “The mobile industry has a pivotal role to play in tackling environmental issues and this program is an important step that could lead to huge savings in resources, not to mention convenience for consumers. There is enormous potential in mobile to help people live and work in an eco-friendly way and with the backing of some or the biggest names in the industry, this initiative will lead the way.”
A universal charger is touted to be advantageous enough for consumers as it boasts of en-abling them to make use of the similar charger for upcoming mobile phones together with charging their handsets anywhere from a device that is related to a different producer. By rolling out this device into the marketplace, the mobile industry is on the way of bringing about an environmentally sound step as universal charger brags reducing standby energy around fifty percent.
It is also claimed to be capable enough of removing up to 51,000 tonnes of duplicate chargers. GSMA assert that the UCS chargers makes allowance for a 4-star or higher efficiency rating that is three times more energy efficient than an unrated charger.
The universal charger is slated to be materialized in real by 2012, so you may have to wait a little longer.
