The Motorola i776 is an attractive phone in silver and burgundy design with an extendable antenna. Measuring 3.39×1.8×0.8 inches, the phone has a very slick surface and is lightweight weighing just 3.56 ounces. The rectangular external display, which supports 96×40 pixels, shows caller ID, date, time, signal strength and battery life. There are two light indicators just above the screen for Bluetooth and a new message. The VGA-camera sits at the top of front panel. The volume rocker and push-to-talk buttons lie on the right spine. The top side of the phone features a speakerphone key and a button which allows you to access recent calls list and send calls to voice mail when the phone is closed.
When you flip open the phone, you’ll find a rather small 1.75-inch screen which supports 480×240. The graphics and photos don’t look sharp. You can only change the font size and backlighting time. The menu items can be switched to list or icon view. The navigation control below the screen sports a four way toggle with central OK button, a camera shortcut, two soft keys, dedicated menu control, and the Talk and End/Power keys.
The Motorola i776 offers all the basic features of a cell phone. The 600-contact phonebook can store 7 phone numbers for every contact with e-mail address, Direct Connect number and an IP address. The other basic features include text and multimedia massaging, speakerphone, vibrate mode, calendar, notepad, voice recorder, Bluetooth, voice dialing, call timers and call forwarding.
The Nextel offers its Direct Connect PTT services with i776. The services include International Direct Connect, Group Connect, Direct Talk, Next Mail and Direct send. With Nextel’s second line service you can add a second line to the phone with different phone number. It allows you to have separate billing statements, ringtones and phone numbers with different area codes.
The VGA camera can take pictures in five resolutions, from 160×128 to 640×480. The camera doesn’t have a flash but offers a low-light setting. The overall photo quality is very poor due to image noise and washed out colors. The image editing options include a self time, two shutter sounds and two quality settings. The battery life of i776 is rated at 3.1 hours talk time.
