Neo Ellipse reviews – a newbie in the cell phone world

By on January 12, 2009

The Neo DWC-LLC is a new entrant to the world of cell phones. The Dubai and UK based manufacturer has launched its second mobile phone, the Ellipse. The first device from the manufacturer, Neo 808i, was a compact and small device.

Measuring 112 x 46 x 3-15mm and weighing 110g, the Ellipse is designed to provide a shape like banana. The name Ellipse, is a clear indicator of the unique shape of the handset. The Neo Ellipse houses a 2-megapixel camera and comes with a 1GB memory card which should be enough for storing your music files. The handset sports a 2-inch TFT color display and is equipped with Bluetooth.

Though the handset has a shape of banana, it still looks very sleek with its shiny casing which features a chrome centre spine that run through the back panel of the device. The handset has highest thickness of 15mm at the center which reduces to 3mm on top and bottom ends. This provides a different shape to the handset.

The handset offers Web browsing on its WAP 2.0 browser but the rather small 2-inch display will not provide the good browsing experience by any means. The display looks clear and bright. The keypad below the display is also small and it is back lit which allows you to use it in the dark without any difficulty.

The Neo Ellipse offers are the basic features of a typical cell phone but there isn’t much to talk about when it comes to the advanced features. The 2-megapixel camera captures low quality images. Moreover, there is no flash. Therefore, the images takes in low light looks pretty grainy. You can take a number of continuous images. The video shooting is as disappointing as the still images.

The handset also features a music player which supports the MP3 format only. In addition to that FM radio is also present on the handset. Both music player and FM radio provides average music quality. The music application allows you to forward/backward and skip the tracks with the help of navigation keys.

The Neo Ellipse has onboard memory of 128MB which can be increased up to 8GB with the help of mircoSD memory card. The Neo has rated the Ellipse with 2 hours of talk time and 100 hours of standby time.
