Nikon D700 is 12-megapixel camera that is available in two configurations: body only or a kit with lens. If you go for it version then you need to pay about $300-400 more than the body only configuration. The design of the camera has typical traits of a Nikon digital cameras. The design of D700 is similar to D3 and D300.
The buttons are provided to adjust all the settings such as white balance, ISO, and image quality. A wheel is provided to enable the mode selection from the three modes- single shot, continuous low and continuous high, as well as Live View, mirror lock up and self timer. Other buttons include control for power, shutter release, exposure compensation, exposure mode selection. The left side of the camera features buttons for focus mode, flash pop-up, compensation buttons, wired remote port and flash sync cable.
The D700’s 12-megapixel camera with its advanced features is enough for any professional. The camera speed is also adequate for anybody unlesss you need pro-sports speed. The camera becomes ready after 0.2 seconds for the first shot after switching on the power. In bright light, the autofocus and shoot takes 0.3 second whereas it takes 0.6 second in dim light. Two consecutive shots takes merely 0.5 second even if you use the flash. The Nikon D700 not only shoots fast but it also shoots great quality images. The lens of D700 delivers sharp and vibrant images with excellent exposure and broad dynamic range. The colors look brilliant and natural without any noise. The photos takes with ISO upto 6400 do not show any sign of noise and are still very good till ISO 12800.
The only possible weak point of D700 is its resolution. Without any scaling, you can print 300dpi at 14.2x9.4 and 11x16 requires 15.8 megapixel camera. At this resolution the main competitor of D700 is Canon EOS 5D which is less expensive than D700. But D700, with modern features, has better AF system and greate latitude than 5D. But according to overall peformance, the D700 is definitely a great camera for professionals.
