Nikon D90 digital SLR camera reviews – the first digital SLR camera with video recording

Nikon has brought about a successor of its Nikon D80. The successor Nikon D90 has a few additional features over its predecessor Nikon D80. The most prominent feature being the ability to perform video recording with the camera. The Nikon D90 is slightly heavier than the D80. It is slightly large in size, yet comfortable. It is made in such a way that the function buttons and common scene setting modes rest on top of the main top dial. A similarity with D80 comes in the form of an exhaustive, user friendly, straight forward menu system that is easier to use for both Nikon and non-Nikon users.

The D90 sports a sharp 3-inch LCD with a new CMOS sensor. The sensor helps the camera to have a resolution to 12.3 megapixels. The D80 had a resolution of 10.2 megapixels. A few features of D90 include live view, in-camera retouching, and face detection. The camera sports a calendar feature that allows the users to view shots by date. The live view function can be activated by a button on the back of the D90. The live view function includes still and video recording. The video recording goes at 720p at 24 fps.

Now, let us talk about the exceptional video recording feature. The user must set the autofocus on the subject with the help of live view. The D90 can automatically adjust for exposure. It cannot adjust for the focus. The user has to manually adjust the focus of the subject while shooting. But if the user tries to shoot clips longer than 5 minutes, the camera lens becomes very warm. The image quality from the D90 is exceptionally sharp, without much digital noise. But the audio quality from D90’s built in microphone is not very good. It can be said that the video function of D90 is great but it needs a lot of further development. The Nikon D90 is available at a price of $1, 250 with an AF – SED 18mm-105mm kit lens.
