Nokia launched their last mid-range mobile phone of 2009 when Nokia 7020 was unveiled in December. The phone has received pretty decent welcome considering its price and feature set. While no one was expecting it to take the market by storm, has performed pretty decently in South Asia and other regions where it had targeted budget users. Nokia has successfully caught budget users’ attention with some surprisingly good phones like Nokia 3120c.
While the phone doesn’t feature combination of groundbreaking features, clamshell design is one of the interesting aspects of Nokia 7020. Budget users generally prefer slider or clamshell design over usual candybar design mobile phones as past experience with Nokia mobile phones suggests. Plus, the light weight phone is available in three attractive colors- graphite, blue, silver and hot pink. Other features include a small TFT display with 240x320p resolution which is generally a standard size in budget mobile phones.
A decent 2.0 megapixel camera could have performed better with flash support. But, its 1600x1200p resolution is helpful in capturing casual photos with 4x digital zoom. The camera is also capable of recording 15fps videos at 320x240p resolution in 3GPP format. Dedicated music and video player can operate most popular media formats including MP3, AAC, MPEG-4 and H.263. Plus, advanced media formats like Real Audio are also supported by the mobile phone. This format is generally not supported by budget mobile phones.
Built-in 45MB memory is just enough for storing casual photos and small apps. But if you plan to use its full multimedia features, you can use microSD or TransFlash cards with up to 16GB support. Nokia S40 v6 operating system can support Java MIDP and hence you can play plenty of Java-based mobile games with Nokia 7020. Flash Lite 3.0 support is another decent feature of Nokia 7020. Flash Lite 3.0 enables advanced lighting options and also supports advanced .NTH format themes which make use of its advanced lighting technology. Built-in support for FM radio and sound recorder can come handy at times. You can also access internet with GPRS and WAP 2.0 connectivity. Opera Mini browser comes pre-loaded with Nokia 7020. Considering its price tag of $120, it’s a decent purchase.
