Nokia officially announces N900 PC-styled handset

Nokia has finally made an official announcement of its N900 PC-styled handset a.k.a. the Rover. Codenamed RX-51 and powered by the Linux-enabled Maemo software, the new device claims to provide PC-like experience in spite of its tiny size.
Being a successor of the ex-generation Internet tablets, the Nokia N900 offers a lot more options for the technology freaks. The Maemo helps users switch and multitask between several apps at one time. Users are also free to enjoy the handset’s cellular attributes such as QWERTY keypad and touchscreen. Besides, the Maemo can also work well with other Nokia platforms like Symbian.
As its reviews, the Nokia N900 is also technically featured with around 1GB of application memory, OpenGL ES 2.0 graphics acceleration, ARM Cortex-A8 processor, 10/2 HSPA, high-resolution WVGA touchscreen and WLAN connectivity. The device is also featured with a Morzilla browser similar to any normal computer. Users can also fully customize the homescreen to include favorite shortcuts, widgets and apps.
Jonathan Arber, Senior Research Analyst in Consumer Mobile at IDC, was quoted to have said that the way Nokia keeps on expanding and diversifying its device portfolio, so multiple platforms are being deployed by it to help it to fulfill separate purposes and deal with different markets. Though there is constant and rapid growth in Symbian in the form of a smartphone platform, Maemo helps Nokia offer new mobile computing experiences founded on open-source technology, which is strongly tied up with desktop platforms.
Messaging on the device is made more quick and easy with the help of the full QWERTY keyboard. The device also gives support to email and IM clients. It touts to organize and display all conversations in separate windows as well. The N900 boasts of having 32GB of internal memory, which is expandable up to 48GB through a microSD card. It comes built-in with a 5mp camera along with Carl Zeiss optics as well.
The Nokia N900 is slated to be shipped in October, but will be on display on September 2 at the Nokia World. It would be coming with the price tag of around €500 (approx. Rs. 35,028).
