With multi-touch devices Nokia wants to ushers a new era. If market sources are to be believed the company is planning to bring about a renaissance through a range of cellphones with sophisticated 3G besides “multi-touch and multimedia functions”. While these plans will do a lot of good to Nokia, they will also benefit the companies engaged in manufacture of the cellular chipsets and touchscreen technology. Qualcomm, Synaptics and Texas Instruments are the ones which will cash on this development. Though details about the plans have yet to be confirmed, the cellphone giant is all set to go cracking, according to DigiTimes. Of course, the multi-touch technology doesn’t apply to the Nokia N97.
Nokia’s plan to launch at least two devices beyond the N97, codenamed IP08 and Eitri, are well known. It indicates how much the company banking on touch controls. The IP08 will have a “Naviscroll” interface where the Eitri gets haptic (vibration) feedback and pressure sensitivity. Neither is known to have multi-touch input as yet.
While the reports that are coming are yet to be confirmed, it is for certain that it will make Nokia only the second company apart from of Apple to go for multi-finger touch controls. This will pitch Nokia against Apple which will certainly slug it out to protect its patents on some of the fundamental concepts. –
The proposed Nokia resurgence hinges on ramp-up in chipset production the company’s is planning to commence in March. Thus, the company hopes to release its phones by the spring, of course, counting on the new touch devices. Nokia is believed to increase its production with a view to get over the present slump. However, the company doesn’t is quiet optimistic about its performance at the initial stage. Yet it is very positive that things will look up later in the year.
