OLPC gears up for XO-1 Laptop
The definition of third world country varies from author to author. The singular indicator of third world country is economic backwardness that causes other problems such as technological backwardness, poverty and so on. Any way, the third countries can not be denied access to modern technology. OLPC foundation, a non-profit organization is leading its efforts to provide third world countries low-cost notebooks to spread computer knowledge in these countries.
OLPC foundation caught media attention last year when the non-profit organization joined hands with Microsoft to supply Windows XP-enabled OLPC XO laptops in the third world countries. After that, OLPC launched the OLPC XO 2.0.
Maintaining the feat, OLPC has geared up to launch an upgraded version of OLPC laptop under the One Laptop Per One Child project. Dubbed as OLPC XO-1, the latest OLPC laptop aims at catering the needs of educational institutions in the third world countries.
As the features, the major highlight of XO-1 laptop is VIA C7-M processor. The VIA C7-M processor is regarded as one of fastest processors in the world ensuring a speed rate between 400MHz and 1GHz. The processor is powered by Via VX855 chipset.With Via C7-M processor, the laptop will provide 3D graphics engine and high-definition video decoder services to users.
As its reviews, the upgraded laptop will also feature high memory power and enriched space. It will sport a 1GB RAM and 4GB of NAND Flash with an option of 8GB storage capacity. It will also support SDIO and USB. The latest OLPC XO-1 laptop will also support WiFi connection, so that students can access to wireless applications seamlessly.
As of now, the non-profit organization has not disclosed the price and availability of the laptop. It is presumed that the laptop will go for testing in August.
