The Olympus µ-7000 is a sturdy camera from the new µ series of Olympus cameras. With this model, Olympus seems to have done away with tapering and curvy designs and has stuck to basics in terms of the design of this camera. With this model, the company has tried to focus more on performance and less on style and curvaceous looks. Having said that does not mean that the Olympus µ-7000 is ugly to look at. The model is available in three different colors that are ‘Ocean Blue’, ‘Midnight Black’ and ‘Starry Silver’. Turn the camera around and you will find the generously big, glossy black LCD monitor. This LCD monitors measures 3-inches and comprises block buttons accompanied by a shooting mode dial.
You will find that the LCD screen covers almost the entire backside of the camera body. The controls on the far right of the LCD look a little fussy but are very easy to operate on. The menu set-up of the camera feels like that of a smart-phone. It comprises easy to view options and is very user friendly. The camera features a 7X optical zoom, underneath which lies the control dial. With the help of this dial, you can easily switch between basic or advanced Auto Mode, Playback, Video, Beauty, and Scene. These modes feature an introductory animation before they open up into action and process the shot. The Playback mode serves an image preview with an animated slide-show effect.
The Olympus mju-7000 offers Self-Portrait, Landscape, and Indoor shooting modes among others. It also features the Smile Shot function under which if the camera detects smiling faces, it automatically starts firing the shutter button. The Exposure Compensation setting of the camera enables you to adjust the brightness of your shots. The camera provides you with the options of adjusting your flash, the option of a self-timer, and options for macro settings. The Super Macro mode of the Olympus µ-7000 enables you to focus very closely up to 6.6mm. The picture quality of the camera is exhilarating and comprises lots of detail. The Olympus µ-7000 is available at a price of £207. The Olympus µ-7000 comes across as a solid, sturdy, and durable camera that is worth going for.
