panasonic-dmc-fx550The DMC-FX550 is a 12.1-megapixel camera which sports a 5x optical zoom capable ultra-wide 25mm Leica DC VARIO-ELMARIT high-quality lens. The optical zoom can be increased up to 9.8x in 3-megapixel resolution mode. Single touch of a button shift the optical zoom of the camera to 5x and the second touch shift the zoom to 9.8x.

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX550 boasts of large 3.0-inch touch-screen interface which if far ahead of the touch-interface offered by its competitors. Capturing images and playback is a pretty simple task with the responsive touch-interface of the camera. Navigating through the menus is pretty easy due to the intuitive interface. The manual exposure mode users can easily adjust the aperture and shutter speed by simply moving the slider. The biggest advantage of the touch interface is ability to make fine changes to settings like white balance and color temperature.

The DMC-FX550 is equipped with Panasonic’s unique Face Recognition feature. When a subject makes frequent appearances before the camera, it will ask to register the face. After registration, when the same subject appears each time the camera will show its name and set focus and exposure according to that subject. In addition to remembering the name, the camera is also capable of remembering the age so that you can add both name and age to the images. The camera switches automatically to Baby mode for babies under 3 years of age. As the camera remembers the names, you can view images of any individual.

Like the latest camera models from Panasonic, the FX550 is equipped with AF tracking and Intelligent mode. The AF Tracking allows the camera to keep the focus locked on the subject even after the subject moves. With the Intelligent Scene Selector, you don’t need to worry about choosing the scene mode as it automatically identifies the shooting situations and selects the appropriate scene mode. With the Intelligent Auto mode, you don’t need to fiddle with any camera setting as camera adjusts all the settings such as activating AF tracking, Face Detection with Face Recognition, Optical Image Stabilizer, Intelligent ISO Control, Intelligent Scene Selector, and Intelligent Exposure. So, you just need to release the shutter to capture beautiful images.

The FX550 provides quality performance with very high speed. The camera’s shutter time lag is just 0.007 second and it captures 2.3 shots with 12 megapixel resolution in 1 second when it is in burst shooting mode. The High-Speed Burst shooting mode allows the camera to capture 10 shots in one second. It is also capable of capturing continuous shots with flash or without flash until the camera memory is full.
