Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ28 reviews – a decent mega zoom camera

panasoniclumixdmcfz28The latest trend in the digital camera arena is the introduction of mega-zoom cameras in the market. The market already boasts of a few models and the leader of the pack is the Olympus SP-590, a camera that boasts of a 26x zoom. In this arena, Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ28 comes across as a modest 10 megapixel device with a mega zoom of 18x.

This camera, apart from the mega zoom, also boasts of a very decent features set and controls that include a few manual options apart from the regular auto ones. The camera boasts of Panasonic’s great MEGA optical image stabilization feature. The Intelligent Auto Mode of this device is very effective in rendering excellent performance for you.

The FZ28 sports a standard look of a mega zoom camera in terms of design. As far as dimensions are concerned, the camera weighs around 15 ounces and measures about 3 inches by 4.6 inches by 3.5 inches. Just forget about keeping the camera in any of your pockets as it will never fit in any. But the light weight of the device makes it easy for you to carry it around with you. Just buy a mid size case for the camera and move it around with you.

The camera features a 2.7 inches big LCD screen of a very high resolution. The camera boasts of a bright electronic viewfinder that comes across as an extremely useful tool. The rear and top surface of the camera is covered by control buttons and logically arranged dials. The controls on the camera include iA (Intelligent Auto), Aperture priority, Program AE, Manual, Shutter speed priority, among others.

The camera gives you the options of changing ISO settings, white balance settings and other variety of settings. The camera features 720p recording at about 30 frames per second. The camera saves the movies using the Motion JPEG codec. The start-up time of the camera is about 2.3 seconds and the device takes 1.8 seconds between consecutive shots.

Needless to say, the performance of the camera is exemplary. The camera accounts for an accurate and detailed outdoor exposure. The colors come out to be of naturally vibrant but the images show a poor level of noise suppression.

Overall, the Lumix DMC-FZ28 is a decent enough mega zoom camera. Its packed feature set and good performance make it a device to go for.
