Since the launch of iPod Touch and iPhone, the manufacturers are competing against each other to provide the best docking stations. The Philips SBD7500 is another addition to this long list of portable iPod and iPhone docking stations. In the past, the Philips has chosen the safe path of keeping its products in the middle segment, be it price or functionality. The same is true for the SBD7500 as it offers nice blend of functionality, affordable price, good looks, and performance and user friendly product.
When it comes to design, the Philips has chosen to keep it subtle. The SBD 7500 is designed in black and is just opposite of the Altec Lansing inMotion Classic. The edges and the back of the speaker system are curvaceous and rounded to give more classy looks than it actually is. The casing is a bit glossy and acts like fingerprint magnet. The chrome-controls located on the top of the device contrasts well with the rests of the system. The controls include volume, bass boost and power buttons.
The twin 1.5-inch speakers along with bass reflex diaphragm are hidden beneath the black nylon fabric, which is stretched across the front panel. The iPod and iPhone dock connections are located on the lower half of the speaker grille, which is covered with chromed plastic accents. The back is all black plastic and sports aux input and power adapter connectors. The lower half on the back side hides the AA battery compartment and a kickstand.

Measuring 4.3 inches tall, 12.2 inches wide and 1.6 inches thick, the speaker system is fairly compact and portable. It weighs just 9.6 ounces and carrying it around in a backpack shouldn’t be an issue. Moreover, a fitting neoprene carry bag comes with system, should you decide to carry it alone.
When it comes to features, there isn’t much to talk about. It doesn’t offer any features like FM Radio, Bluetooth Compatibility, or remote control, which are offered by the likes of Logitech or Altec Lansing. The Philips SBD 7500 is just an iPod/iPhone speaker dock with subtle bass boost with the click of a button and that’s all.
