The BlackBerry Bold 9000, is has entered the market and it is a strong competitor to other phones in the 3G market. The Bold has really impressive design, high-speed connectivity, and a sharp display. On the other hand, it falls in areas like call quality and the camera’s image quality.
The Bold is undoubtedly the most stylish BlackBerry. It has a removable cover that can be personalized with optional blue, brown, green, gray, or red back. The measures 4.5 inches by 2.6 inches by 0.55 inch which roughly same as its Curve8300. Although it is heavier than Curve8320 but has same weight as Apple’s iPhone 3G.
The Bold does not sport a touch screen but its keyboard is absolutely terrific. But it sports various typical characteristic of a BlackBerry platform such as corporate e-mail. It also beats the every other 3G phone in terms of battery life. Its battery nearly runs for 8 hours while the iPhone 3G’s battery has a life of five and half hours.
Bold’s QWERTY keyboard is designed such that there is enough space between the keys and finger slippage is least. There are thin metal dividers between the keys that have increased its usability. The operating system is also revamped and new interface is attractive than the previous ones. The Bold has access to AT&T’s 3G network and it also supports tri-band HSDPA and quad-band EDGE data connectivity.
The phone’s display looks spectacular. The videos and images look absolutely brilliant on its 480-by-320-pixel VGA display. The Bold also sports 3.5mm headphone jack which has increased its potential music player.
Bold’s 2.0-megapixel camera seaems a bit week, a 3-megapixel camera would have suited been better. The camera has a flash and 5X digital zoom capability. But the flash is too bright that can spoil the indoor pictures and they look a bit overexposed.
The BlackBerry Bold will leave you wowed as far as web browsing and messaging is concerned. But its average call quality and camera affects its potential to compete with iPhone and the Android-based T-Mobile G1.
