RIM Blackberry Pearl Flip 8220 - get ready to flip ypu Blackberry

Measuring 2×3.9×0.7 inches, the Blackberry Pearl Flip 8220 is available from T-mobile for $200 with 2-year contract. As its review, the design of the phone makes a great impression on you when see it for the first time. The external 128×160 pixel color display on black glossy surface looks very impressive. The external display shows information about caller ID of incoming calls with contact image, message alerts and a clock. Just above the external display is located the 2-megapixel camera which has built-in flash. The image quality of the camera is same as what you expect from a megapixel camera. The images with digital zoom look disappointing due to graininess.

When you open the phone, you will see a larger and bright internal display measuring 1.5×2 inches with a resolution of 240×320 pixels. You can customize the home screen, which by default shows MyFaves interface of five contacts, with a background wallpaper and icons for calendar, messages, e-mail, contacts and browser. The BlackBerry Pearl has typical buttons for navigation that BlackBerry phones offer. There are red and green buttons with menu, and back keys. The volume controls, which can be used for zooming in and out, lie at the side of the phone. A key is provided on each side that can be assigned to any application that you want.

The 20-key SureType keyboard is a bit difficult to use, although metal strips has been provided between them. You need to be careful while typing as you might press wrong keys. As each key has only one character assigned the typing is easy and searching through the contacts also becomes simple as you need to press only one key.

The internal memory of Pearl is merely 128MB, so a slot is provided for high capacity microSD or SDHC cards. Although the included headset has good sound quality but you can use any other headset as a standard headphone jack is provided. The Pearl supports T-mobile’s EDGE network that can used for browsing through tiny version of Web pages. You can also zoom in using the volume controls. The Pearl can also be connected to a Wi-Fi network which allows you to make calls and use data services if you have T-mobile’s subscription of Unlimited HotSpot Calling service. This feature is very helpful when T-mobile’s network is weak.
