Samsung Alias 2 SCH-U750 Reviews – handset with a unique keypad




samsung-sch-u750-alias-2The Samsung Alias 2 SCH-U750 is the third revamped version of Samsung’s SCH-U740. The handset is available via Verizon Wireless, with $79.99 service contract and $50 mail-in rebate. Measuring 4.01 inches long, 2.04 inches wide and 0.76 inch deep, the Samsung Alias 2 looks pretty ordinary from outside but it impresses everyone as soon as you open the handset.

The handset sports a 1.3-inch external display, which has native resolution of 128×128 pixels and supports 65k colors. The display shows all the necessary information like, photo caller ID, signal strength, date, time and battery life. The display also doubles as viewfinder for the 2-megapixel camera, which is located just above it. The Alias 2 also houses separate controls for music player that are located just below the display.

The rest of the external controls include dedicated voice dialing button and volume rocker, which are located on the left edge, while the right edge houses 2.5mm headset jack along with Samsung’s proprietary charger port, microSD card, power control and locking key.

The Alias 2 boasts of 2.6-inch internal display, which has native resolution of 320×240 pixels and supports 262k colors. But the biggest attraction of the handset is its unique keyboard. The keypad consists of square and rectangular keys, whose function depends on the way you have opened the handset. The keys display different characters, when the phone is in vertical mode and horizontal mode. The Samsung Alias 2 uses Moto’s ModeShift technology to change the characters that are displayed on the keys.

The features offered by Alias 2 includes 1,000-contact phone book, text messaging, MMS, world clock, alarm clock, stopwatch, vibrate mode, currency converter, unit converter, calculator, calendar, tip calculator, stereo Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, voice commands, file manager, USB mass storage, and integrated GPS. The Alias 2 is a dedicated messaging phone, which is evident by the included features. The Alias 2 supports instant messaging along with chat, and e-mail.

The Alias 2 is a 3G handset and it supports all the 3G services offered by Verizon Wireless, which include V Cast video streaming, V Cast Music with Rhapsody.

The Alias 2 has respectable internal memory of 100MB but it supports microSD cards up to 18GB. It has a rated battery life of 5 hours talk time and 16 days standby time.
