After Nokia’s Symbian and Google’s Android, Samsung presents its very own Bada OS which will be unveiled with Samsung Bada S8200. Bada is an under-development open source platform that was announced at the end of 2009. Samsung Bada is pretty similar to Android that promotes richer user experience by improving certain aspects of mobile computing. Samsung Bada is not yet officially launched but certain details have been revealed by Samsung. Market experts believe that Samsung has made a smart move trying to compete with Google’s Nexus One.
As a direct competition to recently launched Nexus One from Google, Samsung Bada S8200 is powered by a mighty powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon processor known to have powered Sony Ericsson Xperia X10, Toshiba TG01 as well as Acer Liquid A1 Smartphone. S8200 and recently announced Samsung Galaxy2 will feature a powerful 1 GHz Snapdragon processor. Samsung has released a few screenshots of their new Bada platform which will be shipped with S8200 model.
Top features of Bada S8200 include a shiny 3.7-inch AMOLED screen which is also used with Samsung’s latest Omnia II. AMOLED screen used by Samsung gives it a clear and distinct advantage over Nokia’s OLED screen which faces some problems in bright sunlight. A pretty good 5MP camera with usual features like autofocus and digital zoom will be available with the Bada S8200. The mobile will support both Wi-Fi and GPS technologies as well as HSPA compatibility.
Samsung Bada S8200 is surrounded by media buzz even if there are no confirmed snapshots or hands-on reviews available yet. Market experts believe that the Bada S8200 will be priced at about $575 which seems worthy of features it boasts. Unconfirmed reports from certain online Android forums suggest that Nexus One will be tagged at mere $199.
Even a Cnet review suggested that raw hardware price for Nexus One won’t exceed $175. In that case, Samsung would have to put in something extra special if they want to make S8200 a hit. Bada S8200 is also seen as a future competition to the Motorola Droid Smartphone. It will be interesting to see if buyers go for Bada-based S8200 if they can get a superior Android-based Galaxy2 at about $75 extra.
