Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 Review

By on April 18, 2012

The Galaxy Note 10.1 is Samsung’s second generation Note tablet and comes with a 10.1” screen and a S Pen stylus. This will be the Korean brand’s latest device when it is launched and will follow in the footsteps of the 5.3” Galaxy Note. The company has recently come out with the Galaxy Tab 2.0, which will take over from the original Tab.

Features of Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1

The Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 has all the aesthetic highlights which have become standard on the Samsung devices. It has a glossy back panel and the bezel is buttonless. The finish of the tablet is slightly slippery and we nearly dropped it. Just like the Apple iPad 2, the Samsung Galaxy Note 1.0 can be had in two colors: white or black.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 has been specially designed to operate with the S-Pen stylus and comes with a custom-made S-Note software which includes image editing software designed by Adobe. The stylus is easy to use and quite responsive and one can draw a picture or write a message without any hiccups. In this day and age, offering a stylus with a device is not common but the S-pen works really well with the ultra-responsive touchscreen.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 has a 10.1”, 1280×800 screen which is double that of the Galaxy Note. The TFT liquid color display screen comes with WXGA resolution.

The display is just like the ones on other Galaxy devices and is very bright and crystal clear, even under the harshest of sun light.

This where the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 disappoints a little. It only has a 3-megapixel camera at the back though the logic of having a rear-facing camera on tablet isn’t clear. On the front of the tablet is a 2-megapixel camera which can be used for making video calls.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 uses the Android Ice Cream Sandwich operating system and though we expected it would make using the tablet a slick and fast experience we were somehow disappointed by the slight lag when navigating through different screens and when opening different applications.

However, we will reserve the final verdict before we get hold of proper production model, hoping Samsung would have noticed the issue and made it faster than the model we had in our hands.

Sum Up & Price of Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1

The name is slightly confusing because it combines names of two Samsung products which sell side by side in the Galaxy line-up. However, the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 has all the makings of a decent device, which will certainly sell well in the tablet market. Samsung offering a stylus with the tablet looks a dated idea but the S-Pen and the very responsive screen work very well together and its a pleasure to use the pen.

We are hoping the user-interface on the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 is improved the next time we get hold of it. The Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 will go on sale from June onwards and the estimated price of the device is around $600.
