Samsung is now targeting a social networking crowd with the release of their Genio Touch. The multicolor swappable covers and the implementation of networking widgets are likely to attract the young generation. It is smaller than the iPhone 3G and lighter as well and can easily fit in the tightest jeans pocket. The 2.8 touch screen is just astounding and the entire handset is very comfortable.
The Genio Touch seems much like the Pebble apart from the overload of buttons. The touch screen houses all the functions apart from the dedicated call handling buttons and camera and volume control on the side. The microSD slot is hidden under the battery cover which is a bit inane but fortunately the battery doesn’t have to be removed to insert memory chips. The interface is amazingly simple easy to use for smart phone beginners.
The widgets incorporated in the Genio can be placed on the various home screens there by personalizing the handset becomes much easier. Some useful widgets included are Picasa, Twitter, MySpace and Facebook. The main menu sports useful applications including the Googlemaps which is close enough to be used as navigation software. We all expect a QWERTY keyboard on all smart phones these days but unfortunately the Genio doesn’t have one.

The alphanumeric key pad becomes excessively difficult when browsing and entering web addresses. The multi touch functionality isn’t that responsive and does not register quickly on screen. When it comes to connectivity the Genio disappoints once again, the lack of 3G and Wi-Fi leaves all the browsing speed on GPRS and EDGE which is just not good enough anymore. Samsung has really gone out of their way to provide a cheap smart phone but compromised on various features.

The Genio Touch is integrated with a mere 2 megapixel camera without a flash or an auto focus. Therefore taking pictures will be a hassle and the due to the lack of flash it’s impossible to take a photo under dim light. On the positive side the Genio houses an amazing battery which ensures around 3 days of usage which is impressive for a touch screen phone.

Overall the Samsung Genio Touch isn’t perfect; despite of the amazing battery life and social networking widgets it does not guarantee a good experience. If in case you are looking for an entry level smart phone which is rather affordable than the Genio is exceptional.
