Measuring 3.64 inches high, 1.85 inches wide, and 0.69 inch deep, the Samsung JetSet aka SCH-r550 looks like any other flip phone with the exception of music player controls. The handset is available for $129.99 with a rebate from Cricket and you don’t need to sign any contract. The handset doesn’t offer anything new as far as design elements are concerned. The handset is designed in black colored plastic, which feel comfortable and in the hand.
The small external display has native resolution of 96×96 pixels and it supports 65k colors. It displays all the necessary information like caller ID (both, numeric and photo), date, time, signal strength, and battery life. The external display also acts as viewfinder for the camera lens and it also displays wallpaper. Just below the external display, you will find touch controls for the music player.
The handset boasts of a 2.1-inch internal display, which is quite impressive considering the caliber of the handset. The display has native resolution of 320×240 pixels and it supports 262k colors. The graphics and images look vibrant, and are sharp on the display. The navigation array consists of circular toggle surrounding the central OK button, clear key, two soft keys, and the Talk and End/power keys. The array is quite spacious and you will not have any problems while navigating through the menus. The keypad buttons are quite big and have adequate space between them but they are little slippery.
The left spine houses the volume rocker along with microSD memory card slot, while the right spine houses the camera shutter/handset locking key along with headset jack, and a charger port.
The JetSet’s features include 500-contact phone book, text messaging, MMS, vibrate mode, speakerphone, alarm clock, world clock, calendar, memo pad, tip calculator, calculator, a unit and currency converter, stopwatch, voice recorder, voice dialing, and stereo Bluetooth.
The handset sports a 2-megapixel camera, which is capable of capturing stills in six resolutions. Other camera features include four white balance presets, night mode, five color effects, self-timer, adjustable brightness, adjustable ISO, three quality settings, exposure meeting, and five shutter sounds along with a silent option. The built-in camcorder records videos in two lengths.
The music player offers pretty decent collection of features, which include playlist edit and creation, an equalizer, and repeat and shuffle modes.
The JetSet has a rated battery life of 3.5 hours talk time and 10.4 days standby time.
