Samsung seems to be getting better and better at music-centric mobiles since last year. They launched some really good multimedia handsets competing with top Sony Ericsson and Motorola mobiles. But, unfortunately Samsung has got something wrong with their latest M2520 Beat Techno. The phone was in development stages for a pretty long time. M2520 looks like a decent multimedia mobile but its overall features are lame and not even close to what its competitors are offering. It’s still unclear how this handset will survive in current race against leading mobile giants like Nokia and Sony.
Samsung Beat is expected to release sometime in 2010 after its official announcement in first week of January. It’s a pretty lightweight phone at just 100g and good dimensions. But, a very small 2.2 inch screen with mediocre 176×220 resolution tells half the story about this handset. It is a pretty good attempt from Samsung if we consider only multimedia related advantages and neglect other cons.
A 3.5mm audio jack caters to all the needs of a music lover. Plus, dedicated music keys like Sony Ericsson Walkman series come in handy at times. Samsung has introduced a new technology called Digital Natural Sound Engine which is supposed to improve quality of audio playback when played through speakerphone.
Ample memory storage of 8GB (MicroSD expandable) makes sure than you won’t have compromise on storing your favorite music or video files. WAP 2.0 is the only networking solution available in Samsung M2520 Beat Techno handset. Bluetooth 2.1 with A2DP can be used to transfer files to another multimedia device at high speed. The mobile supports Java MIDP 2.0 apps like games and softwares. Dedicated audio and video players support almost all popular formats used commonly. Battery backup is also pretty decent at 360 hours of standby time and eight hours of talk time. The phone also has Stereo FM with RDS feature and a decent 1.3 megapixel camera.
The mobile will be available only in black color. Only concern about this mobile is that it poses no threat to any other mobile in its class. There is nothing interesting about this mobile from Samsung that would lure customers and get them to buy Samsung Beat. Pricing details and exact release date are not announced yet. But, we don’t expect this phone to create history or record off-the-track performance when it comes out.
