Samsung Mantra reviews – the second Samsung hand held in the Virgin Mobile family


samsungmantraTill few months back, Virgin Mobile had only one Samsung handset, the Samsung Slash, in its series of handsets. Now the carrier has got a second Samsung device in its family. This second device is the Samsung Mantra. This phone, like the Slash, is a simplistic device that offers basic functions and excellent call quality. In terms of design, the Mantra is a clamshell model with a spacious keypad and nice buttons. The Samsung Mantra is available via Virgin Mobile in the prepaid form for a mere $59.99. The phone is available in a grayish black color scheme.

As far as dimensions are concerned, the phone measures about 3.8 inches by 1.87 inches by 0.69 inch. It weighs around 3.35 ounces. The Mantra has a good feel around its body and fits extremely easily in any of your pockets. The external display of this phone is less than an inch big and offers a resolution of 96 × 96 pixels. It displays basic information like battery level, signal strength, time, date, and photo caller ID.

The camera lens is housed just on the top of this external screen. The internal display of the device is about 2 inches big and offers a support for 65,000 colors with a resolution of 160 × 128 pixels. The graphics and the resolution are just fine and the menu interface can be viewed in both icon and list forms. The phone is easy to operate and the keypad sports brightly backlight and big buttons.

The Mantra boasts of a phonebook of capacity of 500 contacts. In terms of features, the hand held boasts of Bluetooth support, voice dialing, access to POP3 e-mail, speakerphone, text and multimedia messaging, world clock, instant messaging etc. The camera on the phone is a VGA version with a self-timer and four white balance settings. The Mantra offers an internal memory of a mere 8 MB. You can select a variety of color themes and wallpapers in order to personalize the Mantra. The phone lacks applications or games. The battery life of the Mantra in terms of talktime is about 5.5 hours.
