The Samsung P560-54G is a general-purpose laptop that comes at a steep price of $1,150. With features like a big 15.4-inch widescreen, an HDMI port, a midrange Nvidia 3D chipset, and a great performance, the machine could have done better with at least a decent, if not low, price tag. Experienced users will sideline this machine against the less expensive and more visually sound Acer Aspire 6930G-6723 or the Gateway MC7803u. The P560-54G is not the greatest of all machine when it comes to design. From Samsung’s point of view, their machine targets small-business users for whom design is not a big issue. Its matte black exteriors, devoid of any polish, no color splashes, no metallic trimmings, and no embedded patterns make the P560-54G a loser in terms of style and aesthetics.
The P560-54G weighs 5.9 pounds and boasts of a 15.4-inch, big and bright, widescreen that brags of a native resolution of 1,280-by-800. The screen is matte and fends off glare a lot better than the glossy ones on its competitors. Its keyboard is pretty ok to do with but the mouse buttons make loud clicking sounds. The device has metallic palm rests around the keyboard and these palm rests remain smooth and cool against the fingers. The computer has an HDMI port that can stream digital video feeds to an external display. A dual-layer DVD burner, a slot-reading optical drive, four USB ports, etc. are few features of the computer. The computer lacks a FireWire port but includes a fingerprint reader and a webcam.
The Samsung P560-54G is powered by 2.0-GHz Intel Core 2 Duo T5800 and 3GB of RAM. Samsung has put the Nvidia GeForce 9600M GS chipset in the device to lure gamers to the product. The performance of the laptop is great but is very dismal on the battery front. The battery lasts around 3 hours on a single charge. It can be said that the technical specifications of Samsung P560-54G can easily challenge those of the competitors. But its poor battery life and a steep price may prove to be its disadvantages against its competitors.
