Measuring 4×1.97×0.55 (HWD), the Samsung Trance is a performance oriented cell phone. The Trance looks very stylish and elegant due to curvaceous front panel that looks like a violin. The handset is available from Verizon Wireless for the $49.99, with a two year service agreement.
The handset sports a color rich 2.1-inch display, which has native resolution of 176×229 pixels and supports 262k colors. The screen looks vibrant and saturated with colors, which makes the text and graphics look bright and attractive. The Trance’s navigation array is touch-sensitive and consists of four way toggle with central OK button, two soft keys, Clear button, and dedicated music player key. The dedicated music player controls also opens the playlist, while the four way toggle doubles as shortcut for three user-defined functions and My Shortcuts dialog box.
The handset uses the slider mechanism to hide the keypad and other controls, which include dedicated camera control, Send key, and Talk/End keys. As expected, the keypad features flat keys, which are separated via dividers.
The left spine house the volume rocker along with hold/lock button and microSD memory card slot, while the right spine houses dedicated speakerphone key, along with charger jack and standard 3.5mm headset jack. The camera can be accessed by sliding the phone. Another welcome addition is the inclusion of self-portrait mirror.
The Samsung Trance offers nice blend of basic and advanced features, which include 1000-entry phone book, vibrate mode, text messaging, speakerphone, MMS, world clock, stopwatch, calculator, alarm clock, a calendar, and a notepad. The advanced features include voice commands, wireless Web browser, VZ Navigator, mobile e-mail, USB mass storage mode, support for Verizon’s Chaperone service, and stereo Bluetooth.
The Trance is termed as a music phone and it boasts of simple interface and plenty of options, which include album art, music library, create and edit playlists, shuffle and repeat modes. 11 equalizer settings, and a manual equalizer.
The Trance sports a 1.3-megapixel camera that captures stills in six resolutions: 1280×960, 1024×768, 640×480, 320×240, 160×120, 128×96 and three quality settings. Other camera options include night mode, self-timer, adjustable brightness, five preset white balance, zoom and lots more.
