If you aren’t aware of what a Solid State Drive stands for, let me acquaint you with that. A (SSD) Solid State Drive is meant for device, which makes use of solid-state memory to keep in store continual data. A SSD follows a hard disk drive interface, in this way it can effortlessly be replaced in most apps. A Solid State Drive utilizing DRAM (dynamic random access memory) or SRAM (static random access memory) is normally known as a RAM-drive.
Samsung has started mass producing 256 gigabyte (GB) solid state drives, which will be used in desktop PCs and notebooks, sporting double the performance of Samsung’s at present available 128GB and 64GB models.
Jim Elliott, vice president, memory marketing, Samsung Semiconductor, said:
“While SSD’s have always been touted for their performance, Samsung is turning the storage industry upside down now with an SSD that delivers truly unruly performance. Getting our exceptionally high performing 256GB SSD in a notebook is analogous to having a 15,000rpm drive, without all of its size, noise, power and heating drawbacks.”
Besides, the excellent storage capacity, the 256 GB SSD puts forward 200MB/s write rate, 220MB/s read rate and optional proprietary encryption programming for complete disk encryption. It is also capable of erasing cycles at 100 GB per minute so a quicker rewrite speed.
The Samsung SSD can also store around 25 HD movies in 21 minutes likened to 70 minutes captured by 7200 rpm HDDs. Samsung avers that the application launch speed of the SSD is almost ten times quicker than the fastest HDDs and guarantees quicker transfer of big multimedia files. The 2.5-inch 128 GB SSD, weighing approximately 81 grams, uses just 1.1 watt power likened to HDDs.
The only platform design consisting of NAND flash, a chip controller and special drive firmware increases its proficient performance. The availability and pricing is not up till now revealed.
