Samsung YP-R1 Touch MP3 Player Reviews

Samsung-YP-R1Samsung has been ingenious in providing one of the best touch-driven MP3 players. Their latest addition to the market is the YP-R1. The previous YP-P2 and the YP-P3 received mixed emotions among consumers mostly towards the negative side. However Samsung boasts that the YP-R1 is going to set the record straight and improve on the earlier releases. The 2.6 inch radiant screen displays a 400 x 240 pixel touch sensitive resolution.

The YP-R1 displays the controls on screen which ensure that the physical space is freed up; it measures at 85 x 45.5 x 8.99mm similar to that of the Sony E series Walkman. Brushed with a metal finish and color options in black and silver the Samsung YP-R1 is beyond doubt an eye candy. The TouchWiz interface was newly incorporated to ensure responsive and timely functions. Despite of theses advanced feature the player can do with a little more patching up.

Similar to the iPod touch the top menu features a paged layout where icons can be moved about in grids of three and four. However some icons on display are left blank and cannot be moved out and to answer to that call the TouchWiz interface incorporates widgets, which are very useful and definitely appealing. The preeminent feature of the Samsung YP-R1 is Sleep Cat, which enable the player to turn itself off when not in use based on a timer.

One of the most hyped features in the YP-R1 is Beat DJ. It edits and remixes audio files with scratching the tracks and even adding reverb or echo effects. It turns out to be exciting at first but this feature has lots of limitation and eventually becomes boring and meaningless. Navigation has been improved radically from the previous versions therefore browsing through long lists of music can be done in a jiffy. The Bluetooth screen provides a whole new experience with available devices circling around on the screen where you have to drag the device to the center to pair with it.

The voice recorder and the FM radio work well enough. Samsung also claims that the YP-R1 will run for over 30 hours of audio playback and 5 hours of video playback. Lots of audio and video formats are supported and the most distinctive and surprising of all is that its supports DIVX. The YP-R1 is simply a delight to possess and sure enough it stands up above the iPod touch and the Sony MP3 players.
