The Samsung YP-S2, nicknamed Pebble, is packed with loads of advanced features and is an inexpensive option to IPod Shuffle. It’s a fun to listen to the audio player, but you need a lot of time to understand its function as the lack of screen makes the navigation a difficult task.
The shape of YP-S2 is similar to a polished stone and is available in five colors- red, purple, green, white and black. The YP-S2 just measures 1.7×0.7×1.6 inches and you can fit in your pocket or hang it from the headphones like a pendant.
The YP-S2’s controls are located on the backside of the device. It is provided with Play/Pause, Volume, Back and Forward buttons. A smart key is also provided for accessing some advanced features, like playlist creation. The competitors of Pebble lack these advanced features, but it is quite difficult to use them without a screen.
The smart key allows you to choose the sound effects- Normal, Studio, Concert Hall. You can also select a play mode- Standard, Repeat, or Random. There are other features that can be accessed through the smart key, such as creation of on-the-go playlist, deleting the songs. Each feature can be accessed by pressing a different combination of keys, and a LED flashes a particular color for each one. It is difficult to keep all the combination and color in your mind.
The device can be connected to a PC with the help of a bundled USB cord. You can add the files by drag and drop using Windows Explorer or Media Studio Software. The sound quality of Pebble is little disappointing. Its signal-to-noise ratio is around 60dB (the higher the number, the better the sound). Nut still it is quite listenable after replacing the included earphones with the ones of better quality.
Although the device doesn’t have a screen but it is equipped with so many impressive features.
