The new Cruzer flash drive is a stylish black and silver flash drive. It is designed in such a way that you just have to slide its top surface forwards with your thumb and the USB connector appears. Doing the reverse makes the drive retract back into its body. This design keeps the connector protected when the device is in your pocket or bag. This drive is a U3 smart drive. This means that an added security, in the form of optional password protection, is offered in the use of the device. The drive is also shipped preloaded with a variety of sections of U3 software. The preloaded pieces of U3 software include a password storage utility, a CruzerSync backup program, Skype, McAfee virus scanner, and a couple of basic games.
The drive gives you an option of downloading plenty of other applications at www.u3.com. The U3 technology is pretty useful as it helps you carry programs around on your flash drive. The Cruzer is offered in 4GB, 8GB or 16GB models. The technology used in the device is the ReadyBoost technology. This technology allows you to use the drive as an extension of the system memory in case you use it with Windows Vista. In case of laptops, this device acts as an extra RAM. The device is not an ideal permanent solution offers limited data transfer speeds. Even with PCs loaded with 4GB of RAM, the drive offers data transfer speeds of limited amounts.
As the features, the Contour offers very respectable average read speed of 26MB/s. The write speed offered is around 14MB/s. In case of good connection, the SanDisk offers write speeds of up to 18MB/s. The SanDisk Cruzer Contour flash drive is available at a price of £21.99. This device is pretty neatly designed and is pretty good in its performance. With added bonuses of password protection and U3 software, the device looks really promising and is worth going for.
