The Sanyo SCP-2700 handset is available from Sprint Mobile at $29.99 with a two-year service agreement. Measuring 4.3×2.4×0.6 inches, the handset weighs just 3.4 ounces and is given a simple and straightforward design, which is evident from its shiny plastic casing. The handset feels comfortable in hand and it will easily fit your pocket.
The handset sports a 2.2-inch screen, which has native resolution of 320×240 pixels and supports 65,536 colors. The graphics look rich in color and the text is easily readable as the display is bright and sharp. You have option to adjust the font size, backlight time, and sleep mode timer.
You can navigate the various menus with the help of square toggle and central OK button along with two soft keys, text messaging key, Send key, End/Power buttons, and back button. The square toggle can be used as shortcut for four user-defined applications and the OK button doubles as menu key when the handset is in standby mode.
The handset manages to squeeze in a small QWERTY keyboard, which is pretty useful for texting. The keypad is perfect for fast and error free typing as the keys slightly raised. The keypad includes dedicated keys for speakerphone and emoticons.
The left edge of the handset houses camera button, charger jack, and volume rocker, while the left spine houses Sano’s proprietary 2.5mm headset jack sits, which is a bit disappointing as you cannot use your own headset. The back panel houses speaker and the camera lens but there no flash or self-portrait mirror.
As its reviews, the SCP-2700 is a basic handset with some advanced features. The QWERTY keyboard and other features make it a perfect handset for texting. The basic features include 600-entry phone book, vibrate mode, text messaging, MMS, world clock, alarm clock, calendar, timer, stopwatch, and voice recorder.
The handset offers comprehensive collection of features that are dedicated to texting. These include Bluetooth, wireless Web browser, voice SMS, IM with AIM, Windows Live, and Yahoo messenger, mobile e-mail, and integrated GPS. The handset also supports various e-mail services such as AOL, Sprint’s PCS Mail, Hotmail, Yahoo, and Gmail. You also have option to use the POP or IMAP e-mail.
The handset sports a 1.3-megapixel camera but it doesn’t have any camcorder. The camera can capture the stills in three resolutions: 1280×960, 640×480, and 320×240.
