Slacker Portable Music Player Review – customize your own music station for free

A breaking invention by Slacker is its new portable music player, often termed as Slacker Portable Internet Radio Player. Now take your entire favorite music folder with you wherever you travel. Integrated with a 4 inch wide screen display, built in WiFi and an efficient Web service, the Slacker Portable MP3 player is an excellent innovation in the world of portable music players. This portable gadget allows you to shape your own music stations for free of charges – no other MP3 player offers this facility.

The most outstanding part of it is that, the Slacker Portable is associated with ‘Slacker Web Music Service’ that can be listened for free without the Slacker Portable Player. After you have entered an artist’s name and customized the station at the site, you can then easily synchronize your customized station with the player, all for free of charges. So, now you have a collection of all your favorite music, isn’t it a unique feature of Slacker Portable MP3 player?

2.76 x 0.67 x 4.2 inches in size and weighing nearly 4.6 ounce, the Slacker Portable player shines when it is working. It takes about 3 hours to charge its integrated replaceable battery and the charge lasts about 10 hours. Navigation through the menus is done by buttons and scroll wheels. There are five buttons (Pause, Skip Forward, Home, Heart and Ban), designed at the sides and top of the device and a volume rocker on the top. You can easily refresh any station’s song wirelessly on the way with the help of its WiFi (802.11/b/g) connectivity technology.

The earbuds provided with the player are comparatively bigger and not upto the level of satisfaction. Navigation through the menus is easy, but the scroll wheel seems to be not responding to clicks or might take a few seconds to register the clicks, at times. Despite all its bugs, the Slacker Portable music player is a unique player integrated with hi-tech features.

Availability at a glance:

While the personal content transfer is not supported by Mac OS, the Windows XP and Vista users are allowed to transfer MP3 and WMA digital music files to the Slacker Portable music player with certain limitations

  • 2GB, 15 Stations for $200 (500MB storage space is accessible)
  • 4GB, 25 Stations for $250 (upto 1.5GB of storage space is accessible)
  • 8GB, 40 Stations for $300 (upto a limit of 4GB storage space is accessible)
