Sony announces new Blu-ray players and networked HDTVs


sony-bluray-playerSony has recently announced a series of new home theater products. The company has decided to focus primarily on HD and this fact is evident with the fact that it has released four Blu-ray players and a new line of networked TVs. The company has also launched a few A/V receivers this time.

The newly announced BDP-S360 and the BDP-S560 are standalone Blu-ray players. The players boast of Sony’s latest technologies and offer full 1080/60p and 24p True Cinema Output. The players are capable of supporting 7.1-channel Dolby TrueHD and Dolby Digital Plus. They also support DTS-HD High Resolution Audio and DTS-HD Master Audio decoding. They house HDMI ports and support Deep Color video output along with AVCHD discs encoded with xvColor technology. You can add your USB flash storage device on these players. The BDP-S560 houses a port that enables you to view your photos directly from a USB drive or a digital camera. You can pair these players with a broadband Internet connection as they are BD-Live capable. The BDP-S560 boasts of integrated 802.11a/b/g/n Wi-Fi connectivity and supports Wi-Fi Protected Setup. The player is Digital Living Network Alliance (DLNA) capable. The BDP-S360 and the BDP-S560 will most probably be shipped at the prices of $300 and $350 respectively.

Sony also announced the BDV-E300 and the BDV-E500W as their new 5.1-channel Blu-ray home theater systems. They are BD-Live capable and are compatible with advanced codecs as the BDP-S360 and the BDP-S560. The BDV-E500W boasts of integrated S-AIR wireless audio capabilities. The BDV-E300 and the BDV-E500W are priced at $600 and $800, respectively.

Sony also announced Z5100 and XBR9 models under its networked HDTVs in its Bravia LCD line. They sport 1080p resolution, 120-Hz technology, and also an integrated Ethernet connection. In its W series of TVs, Sony announced the 52-inch KDL-52W5100, the 46-inch KDL-46W5100, and the 40-inch KDL-40W5100.
