Sony Cyber-shot DSC-T700 is another addition to Sony’s line up of point-and-shoot cameras. Like its sibling T500, the T700 supports a 10.1-megapixel camera and is priced at $399.99. The T700 offers you a stylish design with its metal brushed body which comes in five colors: pink, gold, gray, red and silver.
The T700 offers a high-resolution 3.5-inch LCD display which adds to its style. The T700 also features a built in 4GB of memory which you will not find in its sibling T500.
The T700 measures 2.4x.3.8x0.7 inches and weighs 4.8 ounces, courtesy the metal brushed body. But the metallic body gives a hefty and sturdy feel to the camera. Like T500, the T700 also features a shield on its front panel, which slides down to reveal the lens. The lens has the focal range of 6.18mm to 24.7mm along with 5X zoom.
The T700 is a touch screen device but it also has some physical buttons which include the power button, zoom toggle switch, shutter and playback button. Except these physical controls, everything is controlled through the camera’s sharp 3.5-inch touch screen LCD display. The touch screen interface is designed to give the stylish look but the interface is easy to use due to its intuitive menus. There are lots of functions divided among the various menus and it is pleasure and fun to navigate through all these menus. One advantage that T700 offers is that you can use the display to change the focus.
The sony cybershot camera is capable of shooting images up to ISO 3200 but the images at higher ISO settings are pretty noise. The images up to ISO look sharp with vibrant colors and without any noise. After ISO 400, the images start to show the distortion and noise. The T700’s camcorder can shoot 640x480 pixel video but its sibling offers you higher definition videos at 1920x720 pixels resolution. So, if you are more inclined towards shooting videos with your point and shoot camera then you should go for T500.
The T700 also shares the drawbacks of its sibling Sony T500. Due to its large touch screen, the battery life of T700 is below average. The battery is not enough to fill its 4GB internal memory. The most annoying thing about T700 is its above average shutter lag of 0.7 seconds. The T700 takes 2.41 seconds from start up to first shot and 3.41 seconds between each shot, which is above average performance.
