Sony Cybershot DSC-WX50 – Price & Review

This January Sony Corporation, the Japanese multinational conglomerate launched three new Cyber Shot digital still cameras for capturing those beautiful moments anytime and from any place. The new products include – the Cyber Shot T series DSC-TX200V model, the W series DSC-WX70 & DSC-WX50.

The W series of Cyber Shot cameras have the high resolution Exmor R CMOS sensor as well as the improved BIONZ image processor. Together these two technologies help in capturing images and videos even under low light conditions and enhance the auto-focus speed of the device. The Sony Cyber Shot DSC WX50 camera will be available to the users in two leading colors – Black and Silver.

Dimensions

The DSC WX50 weighs approximately 117 grams and has the following external measurements (approximate) – 92.2 mm width, 52 mm height and 19.1 mm depth.

Display

The product sports a 2.7 inch LCD Clear Photo display with 460k dots. Other features of the LCD display include the following – brightness control with 5 (bright), 4 & 3 Normal and 2 & 1 dark, Histogram and Grid Display (On/Off). The other new release by the Company, Sony Cyber Shot WX70 has a bigger and better 3 inch display (and therefore is more costly than the DSC WX50 model).

The DSC WX50 camera features a 16.2 MP Exmor R CMOS image sensor that offers features such as – extreme speed, high resolution, stunning low light sensitivity, reduced grain, up to 10 fps, 1080i movie modes etc.

Lens

The camera uses a 25mm equivalent Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar lens (6 elements in 5 groups) with the following features – 5 times optical zoom, 10 times virtual zoom via the Clear Image Zoom technology, Aperture: f 2.6-6.3, three Aspheric Elements, Macro mode and the active Steady Shot Mode.

The camera allows users to dual record high resolution stills and movies (60i in 1080 AVCHD video). It also makes use of the Optical SteadyShot technology with Active Mode & effective Camera shake compensation for recording blur free videos even while walking.
