Sony Ericsson is known for its handsets with amazing music capabilities. But the Sony Ericsson W905 walkman phone seems to change the trend with its 5-megapixel camera and accelerometer. The W905 still offers music features, HSDPA, EDGE and Bluetooth to entice you.
Measuring 110 x 49 x 11.7mm, the W905 is a lightweight handset as it weighs just 99 grams. The device will easily fit your pocket and you will not feel it in your pocket due to its light weight. The Sony has designed the W905 to give the looks of a sleek candy bar. The Sony Ericsson W905 is easy to grip due to its textured and polished plastic casing.
The front of the handset is dominated by a 2.2-inch screen which supports 262k colors. Just below the screen, a keypad is located along with the usual Call/End buttons located between the screen and the keypad. All the controls are encased in three interlacing circles. The right spine of the handset features the controls for music application along with the controls for camera and volume. The music controls includes buttons for play/stop and forward/rewind. The left spine houses Sony’s proprietary charger connector.
The back panel of the handset sports a 5-megapixel camera along with a flash. The W905 has onboard memory of 25MB which can be expanded with the memory card. But the memory card slot is located below the rear cover. So, you have to remove the cover every time access the memory card. Unlike many other camera phones, the W905 does not have cover for the camera lens which could have provided extra safety to the lens from getting scratches while putting the handset in pockets/bags. Though the 5-megapixel is the main alluring feature of the handset but it offers only 16x zoom and BestPic feature and lacks features like face or smile detection.
The W905 offers attractive music features. The music player can handle MP3 and AAC music files. When you press the Walkman key, the music application is launched and the Shake control feature allows you to change tracks, adjust the volume and shuffle your music collection. It is a great feature as it allows you to perform various functions by just pressing walkman button and flicking your wrist or tilting the device.
The W905 features browser for opening the WAP pages and the browsing is a good experience as HSDPA connection provides good internet speed and the accelerometer makes it easier to use the Web re-orienting the screen when handset is turned. The handset also features three 3D world clocks which dominate the Home screen. The W905 is also capable of geotagging your photos though it lacks GPS.
The W905 has great battery life with 9 hours of talk time and 380 hours of standby time.
