Sony launches GPS-enabled TG5V Handycam

sony_handycam_tg5v Electronics giant Sony has launched a GPS-enabled camcorder, the HDR-TG5V for the travelers who always prefer lightweight gear. Comes with a Carl Zeiss lens, the handy cam possesses a 10x optical zoom and captures 1920 by 1080 pixel video. It can capture four-megapixel still
images.

The unique feature of TG5V is integrated GPS antenna along with NAVTEQ
maps, which brings auto geo-tag videos or still, so that the travelers
can track the location of the shooting while travelling.

The geo-tagged content has a push-pin reference marker that marks
locations, while the map index is placed at the 2.7-inch LCD
touchscreen to provide geographic data. The travelers can also access
to the geographic data from the Picture Motion Browser software.

That’s why Kelly Davis, director of camcorder marketing at Sony
Electronics said, “Travelers are looking for high-quality products
that focus on performance and portability. This new model has a
titanium body with a premium hard coating enhancing durability and
it’s packed with high-performance features—like GPS and Smile Shutter
technology—that deliver the best combination for your travel
experiences.”

The handycam has 16GB of storage capacity. Hence users can store six
hours of HD footage in the device. You can also extend the recording
time using the Memory Stick PRO Duo.

Another striking feature of the camcorder is Smile Shutter technology,
which brings still photo when the subject smiles. The same technology
can also be applied to video recording. The camera also carries facial
recognition algorithms that adjust focus, exposure and color control
automatically.

The HDR-TG5V will be available in May for $1000. The price of travel
kit, which comes with an extra battery, travel charger and a pouch is
around $100. You can also purchase a wide angle lens for $100.
