sonyhandycamhdr-cx100 Sony has rolled out a lot of models in its AVCHD camcorder lineup. One of the members of this line up is the Handycam HDR-CX100. This camcorder is hard drive based and performs decently well. As far as looks are concerned, this camcorder boasts of a simple silver and black finish. The camcorder is slightly heavy and big, but is performance oriented. This camcorder is not exactly cheap but doesn’t belong to the very expensive category also. The Sony Handycam HDR-CX100 is available at a price of $600.

As far as dimensions are concerned, the camcorder measures 2.3 inches by 2.4 inches by 4.5 inches. It weighs about 11.7 ounces. The camcorder features a 2.4-megapixel Exmor CMOS sensor. The size of the sensor is about 1/5 inch. The camcorder sports an f1.8-2.2 42 – 497mm lens with a 10X zoom and an aspect ratio of 16: 9. In terms of the screen size, the camcorder sports an LCD screen that is about 2.7 inches big and has a touch interface. The camcorder offers an in built flash memory of 8 GB and can be expanded using the Memory Stick Pro Duo. In terms of audio, the camcorder offers 2 channels and the maximum bit rate offered by the device is 16Mbps.

The camcorder is fairly easy to operate. It houses a mini-HDMI port, a proprietary AV connector and USB connectors on its outer body. It is quite surprising that the camcorder doesn’t feature any microphone or headphone jacks. The lens cover of the device is also not automatic but is manual. The LCD screen is okay but is less responsive to touch. It is extremely easy to view even under direct sunlight and is resistant toward fingerprints. The navigation interface of the device is pretty user friendly.

The camcorder offers all essential features of a standard camcorder including Smile Shutter, scene modes, and face detection. At maximum resolution, you can shoot for about 9 hours and 40 minutes on the hard drive of the camcorder. If you are a budget conscious user who wants to buy a good HD camcorder, the Sony Handycam HDR-CX100 can be a good option.
