Sony slashes price of PlayStation 2
With a view to lure the game lovers, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) has decided to bring down the price of its popular gaming system, PlayStation 2. As per revised pricing, the PlayStation 2 will be sold at €99.99 (approx. Rs.6,774). Earlier it was priced at RRP of €129.99 (approx. Rs.8, 806).
Announcing the price cut, David Reeves, President and CEO at SCEE said, “PlayStation 2 transformed the games and entertainment industry, by reaching a mass market audience through innovative games, including social games such as EyeToy, SingStar and Buzz! and by the integration of the DVD player, which helped establish DVD as the format of choice throughout the world,”.
He added, “We are now into PlayStation 2’s tenth year and consumer demand remains strong throughout much of our region. This RRP revision will help to ensure that PlayStation 2 remains a key part of the entertainment market place for some time to come. We are very excited about the future of PlayStation 2 and will continue to grow the game library this year, meaning that new and existing owners have plenty to be excited about.”
The PlayStation 2 features first party games including SingStar Queen, Buzz! Brain Of and MotorStorm: Arctic Edge. The gaming system will also packed with new titles, which may appeal to families and casual gamers. It has also featured renowned franchises like Guitar Hero by Activision, FIFA by EA Sports, Metal Gear Solid by Konami Digital Entertainment, FINAL FANTASY by Square Enix and many more.
The PlayStation 2, also known as PS2 is one of the most popular video game consoles in the world. It is part of the Sony’s PlayStation series of video game consoles. It was officially launched in Japan in 2000. The selling of PS2 touched 140 million by July 2008.
