Electronics giant Sony has introduced something new with SRS-GD50iP which is a combination of USB speaker system and iPod dock. The combination serves multiple purposes such as playing your favorite tunes in great quality sound with huge sized subwoofer or to recharge your iPod through USB connection. While the combination has never been tried before, Sony seems to have got it right tin first attempt with three speaker units, an iPod dock control station and universal remote control.
Sony SRS-GD50iP can act as a normal 2.1 channel sound system through USB connection. But, you can take full advantage of its abilities by using it with iPod connectivity. A tiny remote control will also help you control all major functions like volume control and iPod dock functions. Sony has clearly designed the system as per requirements of a general PC user. So, it is not something that people should be looking forward to use with their home theatre system even if it features iPod dock compatibility.
Sony is also introducing a new feature called “True Dock” which lets you synchronize your data between your iPod and PC. iTunes is best way of synching files between your iPod and PC using this option. No external cable is needed for this purpose which is great. This is how the sound system will work in order to charge your iPod without interrupting your entertainment and media experience. There is a major 40W subwoofer which is supported by a couple of 10W satellite speakers which create surround sound effect.
Sony hasn’t officially announced release date of SRS-GD50iP USB sound system, but we can expect it to be available commercially within a few weeks. Market reviews suggest that Sony SRS-GD50iP would be priced at about $199.99. You need to keep some things in mind tough, while buying Sony SRS-GD50iP. Check if your model of iPod or iPhone is compatible with provided docking station from Sony as the speaker system can support only handful models of Apple products. Sony has been quite consistent in computer speaker market now and is expected to perform really well with launch of their newest SRS-GD50iP sound system. Even if the product is not extremely high-end, it is expected to provide great media experience with USB connectivity for your iPod.
