The VAIO LV180J is Sony’s attempt to make impact on rapidly growing all-in-one desktop PC market. Priced at accessible $1999, offers updated features and a larger screen which were missing in its home entertainment friendly predecessor desktop system. The Sony has joined the clique of Apple, Dell and HP with the 24-inch LCD of LV180J. The HP TouchSmart sports the largest screen with display measuring 25.5 inches and the touch-based interface is offered by HP only. Though the Sony lags behind the HP on the basis of screen size and touch interface but it leaves all its competitors far behind when it comes to the overall performance. The Sony has done a great job of maintaining the balance between day-to-day computing and advanced home entertainment features instead of concentrating on the hardware of the system.
The LV180J is powered by 3.0GHz Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 and 4GB 800MHz DDR2 SDRAM. The graphics are handled by 256MB Nvidia Geforce 9300M GS integrated graphics. The system is equipped with Blu-ray drive and offers storage of 320GB on its hard drive which spins at 7200rpm. The Dell XPS One 24 is the main competitor of Sony VAIO. Going by the specs, the Dell looks simply impressive than the Sony system. The XPS One 24 runs on Quad Core processor and is equipped with more powerful graphics card. That hard drive on XPS gives it an edge above the Sony but you can easily replace the hard drive on Sony VAIO whereas the XPS One 24’s case is locked. The Sony has an edge with its 64-bit operating system of Windows Vista.
Most of the standard desktop PCs are equipped with HDMI out port but the LV180J is the only desktop system which comes with HDMI input port. With the HDMI in port you can transfer vides to your PC from any HDMI-equipped devices. Another attractive feature of the system is an Express Card input on the left edge. The system offers plenty of features so that you will not look for the expansion. The LV180J has a built-in TV tuner, on FireWire 400, a media card reader, wireless networking, and plenty of USB 2.0 ports. In case you decide to go for expansion the ExpressCard slot allows you to easily make the expansion.
The Sony VAIO LV180J offers all the features of a $2,000 desktop PC. The is equipped with Blu-ray burner, wireless networking capability, the optical and coaxial S/PDIF digital audio ports, built-in speakers, Bluetooth, remote control and Web camera. The included TV tuner features both analog and digital cable inputs.
