Southwing’s latest edition to a hands-free headset is the SH241. Designed for performance the SH241 does not disappoint, the decent voice quality overshadows the fact that it has been incorporated with a cumbersome earplug design. Measuring at 2.2 x 0.7 x 0.4 inches, the device is twice as large as the headset. And the build quality does not seem promising; with a thick unattractive black plastic exterior it does not stand well on the looks factor as well.
Despite of a sleek design the SH241 projects its company logo all over the device and the colored LED volume controls does not vow for a sophisticated look. Due to its small size it’s also difficult to identify the volume buttons, although that can be dealt with by changing the face with the alternative metallic face plates provided in gray, lavender and burgundy. The headset seems a bit loose over the year and the hook does not grasp the ear tightly.
However Southwing has provided extra sizes of ear tips to ensure that it is a universal fit. The comfort factor has not been compromised and it also blocks out outside noise immensely. Once again the call terminate button is placed alongside the volume buttons, which is hard to identify. So what makes the SH241 worth buying? Well the answer lies in the decent voice quality and the ability of the SH41 to announce incoming calls.
The SH241 sports a mode called the Whisper Mode; this whispers the numbers of incoming calls, this way you do not have to take out your phone to see who is calling. The call quality is pretty decent and the sound on both end are said to be clear and noise reduction is effective. Although there is no noise canceling technology incorporated in the device, the voice clarity is absolutely fine. But being on a busy street or a loud mall the SH241 will not function well.
One more reason to buy the SH241 is due to its integration with AT&T, this way AT&T customers can save their phone book on to the device. The range of the device is 10 meters which is very viable and the battery life is a surprising seven plus hours. Despite of its poor build quality and mediocre looks the Southwing SH241 offers average voice quality and call announce features and with a price tag of US$40, it’s a valid purchase to make.
