In Las Vegas at CES 2010, MIDI keyboard introduced by ION is possibly the most noteworthy gadget dubbed as iDiscover Keyboard. Fundamentally this is the same concept used in iType Keyboard, delivered by Ion Audio only, which is a heavy and large device with QWERTY keyboard. Unlike iType, iDiscover keyboard comes with an array of piano keys for composition. It operates only those systems which are installed in the device by the company.
The keyboard comprises a set of 25 piano keys on keyboard sheltered with Apple smartphone. We are provided with eight physical keys and rocker for operation and pitch control. The device has brilliant software which can impersonate many instruments as well as is integrated with function which records tunes created by user. It is powered by battery and encompasses RCA stereo outputs and connection for headphone as the requirements for recording system and playback.
iPhone and iPod touch, both can be interleaved with iDiscover Keyboard and when we connect it to Apple Mac and PC using USB connector, it gives good performance. The Device is creative but not convincing; as number of drawbacks is greater than its features. As people are so used to accessing everything on their palm; size of this device is great concern. Misplacing of device needs efforts and it is not convenient to access because of futile size.
The keyboard does not seem appealing to user; but it is not that bad if we consider its functionality. The only problem they are faced with is the application does not correlate with the iPhone effectively. After typing in iType application, we have to copy and paste it in the iPhone application we want. Hopefully, ION will think on these flaws and modify the gadget.
ION is going to release both the devices; iType and iDiscover Keyboard at the same time. They will be available before June in this year. There are no fixed details of pricing but may be device will be retailed for $110. Cost of device is good as it gives great experience of virtual music studio and gives you a break from boring soft keyboards.
