The $ 249.96 TomTom One 130-S is an entry-level portable GPS system from the manufacturer and it is a revamped version of TomTom One 130. Like the older version, the new One 130-S sports a 3.5-inch display, which has native resolution of 320×240 pixels. The GPS device also provides the feature of text-to-speech but you will have to pay extra $50. The TomTom One series of GPS devices lacks lots of high-end features of TomTom GO series devices, such as integrated Bluetooth and live traffic updates.
Measuring 3.2 inches high, 3.8 inches wide, 1 inch deep, the device weighs 2.8 pounds. So, it’s not a compact device by any means but its design is worth mentioning. The One 130-S is provided with EasyPort mount, which comes attached to the back of the device, which you will not find with most devices. The mount system comprises of a suction cup and ball-and-socket-jointed arm and it can also be detached from the device.
The One 130-S sports the same user interface that you will find on other recent TomTom GPS devices. The user interface is very intuitive and simple to use. Tapping anywhere the map allows you to access the Main Menu, which features nine entries on two screens.
The device allows you to enter the address by choosing from city center, street/house number, ZIP code, or intersection. The One 130-S lacks the support for predictive text but it gives you a number of entries matching with entered text. The device also gives a number of options to calculate the route once you enter the address. The options offered by the 130-S include calculation according to fastest, shortest, avoid freeways, walking, bicycle, and limited-speed routes.
The 130-S also supports 3D, 2D north, and 2D track views, and it displays distance and direction of an upcoming turn and also displays next street name. The lower right corner of the screen shows information such as, remaining time of the journey, remaining distance to destination, speed, and direction.
The One 130-S also supports free MapShare updates and comes preloaded with maps of the United States and Canada. You can update the maps add a number of applications when you connect your device to a PC via USB. You also have option of purchasing additional maps, or can subscribe to fuel-price data, and download free POI databases.
