View Sonic unveils its new VPD400 MovieBook

ViewSonic_VPD400A manufacturer and provider of visual technology, View Sonic, has just launched its new VPD 400 MovieBook, a high-definition portable entertainment player, that enables users to watch videos and movies with optional subtitles, listen to music, share albums, read digital books and even record voice memos at a very reasonable costing.

The VPD400 features a high-resolution of 800x480 pixels, 4.3”TFT Matrix LCD display screen that can handle 720 pixels high-definition video content, 400:1 contrast ratio, and 300 cd/metre square brightness and supports 160k colors.

As the reviews, it has an 800 mAH Lithium-ion battery which can play back-up up to 6 hours of video or 12 hours of music or 3 hours of HD video on a single charge. It has an internal flash memory (NAND flash memory) of 8GB and also supports SD cards for expandable storage and users can even side load content with the help of USB drives. In addition to the headphone jack, the moviebook is also equipped with two integrated stereo speakers for sharing audio with friends.

The VPD400 MovieBook can also be hooked to a television or a home theatre system with an AV or component cable although the HDMI is sadly missing and the unit even comes with a remote control to enable easy usage from across the room.

The device supports a wide range of audio, video and photo formats which include JPEG, BMP, PNG, GIF, AVI, RM/RMVB, FLV, MP4, MOV, PMP, MPG, VOD, DAT, H.264, H.263, MP3, WMA, WAV, FLAC, APE and OGG. The most interesting aspect about the MovieBook is that it does not make one install any software to add files as it is done by drag and drop facility.

It is compatible with Windows 98, 2000, SE, ME, XP and Vista. The interface is very similar to the Sony cross-navigation on the PSP and PS3 and Since it is as small and compact as fitting into one’s palm, it can be a great replacement for the iPOD when it comes to traveling as it also allows access to read electronic books. The VPD400 MovieBook is available in colors of Black, White and Pink. It measures 113mm x 74.5mm x 13.8mm, weighs approximately 140 grams and is rated at a retail price of $129.99.
