Webroot Internet Security Essentials Reviews

webrootWebroot’s Internet Security Essentials is the company first venture in the field of security suites. The internet security suite is priced at $60 for three users. The suite is a combination of features from various companies. The suite uses the antivirus scanner from Sophos, firewall from Privacyware, and online backup provided by Webroot’s servers. The suite lacks number of features that are offered by most of the contemporary security suites. The suite does not offer parental controls, antispam filter, or antiphishing capabilities.

Based on the tests performed by various testing labs, the Webroot’s Security suite fared better than the Trend Micro Pro. The Trend Micro performed worst among all the security suites when tested for malware detection capabilities. So, the Webroot stands second last among all the security suites which means that the Webroot Internet Security Essentials is not a good option for protecting your system.

The Webroot not only performed poor in malware detection capabilities but its performance was also poor when it was tested against the unknown files.

Being a new entrant in the Security suite market, the Webroot fails to cast any impression. Most of the contemporary security suite firewalls allows the good software from a whitelist, they also allow those software to access the Internet. This is not the case with Webroot’s firewall as works in a training mode for first seven days. After this, the firewall will prompt you when it encounters new software. This will definitely cause you problem after the training mode expires.

Beware when you use the clean up option as it automatically deletes browsing history, cookies, Windows file history, and other records by default. So you need to deselect all the items that you want to keep. But the cleanup feature is not capable of deleting the Firefox 3’s history.

The Webroot offers 2GB of storage space on its servers for backing up your data. The overall interface is pretty simple and intuitive. The controls and features are clearly presented.
