Zune 4.2 update released
Microsoft’s multimedia device platform Zune was back in news with the manufacture releasing latest update as Zune 4.2. There were reports suggesting that Microsoft has worked out a few bugs and added some new features to Zune platform. Zune platform is one of the top contenders of Apple iPod and iPhone when it comes to multimedia entertainment service with online store. While Microsoft has dedicated Zune store for buying music online, Apple has its popular iTunes store for the same purpose.
Zune users were getting pretty excited after finding that Microsoft had taken down the service for some time two days ago. Supposedly “Maintenance Update” lasted a bit longer, providing Zune users access to its latest update. But, you don’t need to get too excited with the new Zune 4.2 update as there are hardly any noticeable changes in the Zune product. Almost all aspects like user interface and feature set remained unaltered even after installing latest Zune 4.2 update. People certainly expected more as Zune 4.3 was introduced to Zune HD.
Some more news regarding Microsoft Zune was around the block in this week. Reports suggested that Microsoft is getting into prototype stages of the alleged Zune phone. Tech forums were seen discussing about the validity of report which confirmed Microsoft as the official manufacturer of the device from its hardware ID. International users would be delighted with Zune 4.2 update thanks to introduction of a few local European languages in its system files. German and Italian were two new entrants in Zune languages pack.
People would have loved to see some new formats supported by the platform such as MOV or OGG. But, reports suggest that an update or hotfix is under development at Microsoft’s lab to get these two formats to pass compatibility test with Zune HD. On the other hand, Zune 4.2 update added support for Windows 7 library files which was a welcome change. Library locations such as videos, photos and music are supposed to be listed under Monitored Folders section of Zune HD UI. Zune is also expected to make some changes in user interface of the platform in next update, which would be really great considering that they haven’t altered the UI in last three updates.
